Louis Moreau
(1883-1952)
French Painter and Engraver
Louis Moreau was a libertarian and pacifist militant. He sets up in Paris in 1900 where he became painter and engraver.
His portraits of famous anarchists and anti-militarist illustrations embellish a lot of books and Reviews of the libertarian press.("temps nouveau", "le semeur", l'idée libre, "la revue anarchiste", l'unique etc....)
In 1924, with Germain Delatouche, he forms (creates) a famous group «The partisans».
Witness of his time, he offers us also a gripping representation of towns and French landscapes of the beginning of 20th century. His nudes and naturists landscapes, woodcut, are particularly noticed too.
Talented artist, he will keep away from stardom, do not care at all of the official recognition.
His friend Manuel Devaldès will make his biography in 1935.
